How secure is the service?
We strongly recommend that you protect your computing device through methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software, and use Virtual Private Network software when connecting to your office network. Chilli-Spot’s wireless hotspot service uses radio waves to transmit and receive unencrypted data across a public network. This means that Chilli-Spot is unable to provide a guarantee against the risk of data interception or misuse. If you are a YoAfrica customer accessing your YoAfrica email account, YoAfrica’s anti-virus email filter is designed to stop most known email viruses from damaging your computer while you are accessing your YoAfrica account. However, we do not guarantee that all email viruses will be detected and/or removed or that you won’t encounter other harmful occurrences while using our wireless hotspot service. You will need to assess your own security needs depending on what you do online, and make sure you have the required protection. Talk to your IT manager or service provider about your security requirements. If you are purchasing items online with your credit card you should take all normal security measures including checking the security provided by the company you are purchasing from.
How do I get to my normal browser homepage?
Once you have logged in, you will be able to see your normal homepage and any other web pages that you want to visit, or just press ‘Home’ to take you back to your default homepage.
I think there’s a problem with coverage at a wireless hotspot. What should I do?
The connection between your device and the Internet is made via a radio signal, which can be affected by a number of external factors. YoAfrica has made every effort to ensure that your experience the best quality service it can offer, however if you are having problems please call us on +263 4 760406 and let us know, so we can investigate the situation.
How do I view my company intranet?
To access your company intranet via our wireless hotspot service, you will need to talk to your IT Manager or service provider about setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Generally, you won’t be able to visit your company intranet or Local Area Network with a standard Internet connection. If your company provides web-based e-mail you should be able to access this.
If my computer has fixed wireless network settings, will it work with this service?
Our wireless hotspot service uses address translation, and is designed to overcome most fixed network settings. Traffic to the Internet will automatically use a different source IP address than that specified on your computer. Note that due to the nature of this address translation, your computer cannot act as a server. For our wireless hotspot service we recommend the use of dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). This allows our wireless network hotspot service to configure your network settings.
Who do I contact if I have a problem with my Virtual Private Network?
If you do have problems setting up your Virtual Private Network, please speak to your IT manager or service provider to check that all your settings are correct. As there a wide range of security tools available, we are unable to provide support for them.
What if I’m running pop-up blocking software or have disabled Java scripting?
The pop-up log out window will not appear if you are running blocking software or have disabled “active scripting” and/or “scripting of Java applets” under Security in Internet Options. A web page is presented as you log on with options to either “Continue” or “Log out”. It is important that you bookmark this page so you can return to it at the end of your session to cease billing and minimise security risks. Also see When does my session end?
Why do I need to log out when I’ve finished using the service?
Logging out stops billing and reduces the potential risk of third parties being able to ‘see’ what information you are sending and receiving. Note that if you are running pop-up blocking software or have either ‘active scripting’ and/or ‘scripting of Java applets’ disabled the Log out pop-up window will not display and you will need to access the Log out web page. This page is presented as you log on. It is important that you bookmark the page so you can return to it at the end of your session. You may also end your session by typing “Stop” in your browsers address bar. We also suggest that you use methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software, use Virtual Private Network software when connecting to your office network, and take other reasonable security precautions when connected. Talk to your IT manager or service provider for more information on Internet security.
When does my session end?
When you log out of Chilli-Spot’s service using the Log out pop-up window, billing will stop immediately. If you are running pop-up blocking software or have either “active scripting” and/or “scripting of Java applets” disabled the Log out pop-up window will not display and you will need to access the Log out web page. This page is presented as you log on. It is important that you bookmark the page so you can return to it at the end of your session. Logging out will also minimise security risks. Also see Why do I need to log out when I’ve finished using the service. Alternatively you can disable or remove your wireless networking device, shut down your PC, or move out of range of our wireless hotspot location for more than two minutes in order to log out. If our network detects that your connection has ended without you logging out, billing will automatically stop after a short period. We suggest though that you log out when you have finished your wireless hotspot session, as this helps improve your security.
